We are a group of local residents committed to helping improve the local environment and and global climate crisis.

SMCD Climate Action Group

We meet fortnightly on a Sunday night at 7:30 on Zoom to share ideas and concerns and plan actions. Everyone is welcome to join us.

To receive the Zoom information or get regular updates on what has been discussed and up and coming events, simply sign up for our newsletter or follow us on Facebook page.

Below are some examples of currents projects and events we are running.

Litter Picking

Show your local neighbourhood and wildlife some love by joining us on one of our regular litter picks on the second Sunday of every month.

We provide you with litter pickers, hoops and bags, and focus on a different area of the community. The meeting point will be shared in the event details on Facebook the week before.

Balsam Bashing

We are working with Trout in the Trym to improve the ecology of the Trym rivers system.

This summer we are tackling Himalayan Balsam growing along the banks of the river with a series of events. We’ll also be sharing the knowledge to identify and deal with any Balsam when walking along the river, perhaps while following our COP26 Nature Walk….

COP26 Nature walk

We have created a walking route in honour of COP26 & to celebrate our beautiful area.

We’re adding up the collective mileage of everyone who does the walk to see how far we can get from Bristol to Glasgow, where the UN climate change conference (COP26) is happening this year!

So if you’d like to contribute by doing the walk yourself, either download the map & instructions for free, OR buy a 50p map from the Café on the Square.
